1. For the last two seasons the organization of Fashion Week Istanbul is being made by IMG. As the fashion sector, we see this as a new age. Do you think that Istanbul would be in a place where it deserves to be? What positive aspects could you think about when you consider it with the previous ones?
I try to follow Istanbul Fashion Week within my daily schedule. Other than seeing the collections of designers that I like and of whom I am curious about, I do think that the organization is now very promising. Istanbul Fashion Week, which was done by IMG also this year; gave us the opportunity to enjoy the Bosphorus, with the high-top tent, better air conditioning, the positioning of the runway, better sitting arrangement and the accessibility of Kurucesme Arena. Istanbul Fashion Week is improving every season with the help of designers, people from the fashion sector, press, bloggers, sponsors and lots of fashion-lovers. However, we cannot forget this: New York, Paris, Milano and London Fashion Weeks have worldwide-known brands, and they are special events that are followed by the world and world-famous celebrities. It is a bit early for Istanbul to be at this stage. It is my wish to see Istanbul in this ‘top league of fashion’ with enough support, marketing and improving every season.
2. Do fashion weeks have any effect on the dresses you buy? Do you buy a dress from a new designer if you liked the dresses of him/her, or are your shopping habits more constant?
I like being more classic when it comes to dresses, and I choose within this manner. However, the color harmony, the difference of combinations, and brave pieces that are used together on runway shows gives a person the inspiration and bravery to remember and wear old pieces in her closet. I can buy from a designer I haven’t bought from before, if I believe that the cut, model and the color of the dress is suiting me. My criteria here is to choose pieces that fit into my style. Since I know design is a hard process, I believe new designers should also be supported.
3. You usually take place in social responsibility projects. So, have you ever thought of designing a social responsibility project about fashion while Istanbul Fashion Week is going on?
I think social responsibility projects are important since they offer a country the chance to improve and change; and they offer people to change things they think that is wrong or could be better. As far as I know, there has never been a project by a non-governmental organization within Istanbul Fashion Week. I believe that fashion, art and cultural projects are similar in their purpose with social responsibility projects and I say “Why not?” It is a subject that should be thought about in the following years and a project should be designed. Especially in Istanbul Fashion Week where great sponsors are participating, I do believe the marketing and the return of an important social responsibility project would be very effective and quick.
4. What were the ‘top’s for you in Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Istanbul?
Burçe Bekrek with the flitting fabrics and the minimalist collection; DB Berdan with the colorful, alive and Hıdırellez-culture-reflecting collection; Ayhan Yetgin with his monochrome and minimalist style; Mehtap Elaidi and Zeynep Tosun, collections of whom I follow all the time with joy.

1. İki sezondur İstanbul Moda Haftası IMG’nin organizasyonunda gerçekleşiyor. Biz sektör olarak buna yeni bir dönem gözüyle bakıyoruz. Sence İstanbul hak ettiği konuma gelebilecek mi? Eski dönemle kıyasladığında olumlu neler söyleyebilirsin?
İstanbul Moda Haftası’nı günlük programım çerçevesinde takip etmeye çalışıyorum. İlgilendiğim ve merak ettiğim tasarımcı ve modacıların koleksiyonlarını izlemenin yanı sıra; organizasyonun son iki senedir geldiği nokta gerçekten çok umut verici. Bu sene de IMG organizasyonu ile gerçekleştirilen İstanbul Moda Haftası; mekana kurulan yüksek tavanlı devasa çadır, havalandırmanın iyileştirilmesi, podyumun konumlandırılması, oturma düzeninde yaşanan sorunların büyük ölçüde düzeltilmesi ve mekanın kolay ulaşılabilir olması ile Boğaz’da moda keyfi yaşatıyor bize… Gerçekten büyük keyif… İstanbul Moda Haftası, tasarımcıların, moda emekçilerinin, basının, bloggerların, sponsorların ve daha birçok moda severin çabası ile müthiş bir gelişme içerisinde… Ancak tabi ki şunu da göz ardı etmemek lazım. New York, Paris, Milano Moda Haftaları dünyaca ünlü markaların boy gösterdiği; dünyanın ve dünyaca ünlü celebritylerin takip ettiği özel günler… İstanbul’un bu kulvarda yerini alması için henüz biraz erken. Yeterli destek, tanıtım ve pes etmeden her sene gelişerek gerçekleştirilecek Moda haftaları ile İstanbul’un da moda konusunda ‘devler ligi’nde yerini alması herkes gibi benim de dileğim…
2. Moda haftalarının aldığınız kıyafetler üzerinde büyük etkisi var mı? Yeni çıkan bir tasarımcıdan ürün alır mısın, yoksa daha sabit midir alışveriş alışkanlıkların?
Giyim tarzı olarak klasik olmayı seviyorum ve seçimlerim de bu yönde oluyor ama moda haftalarında gerçekleştirilen showlardaki renk harmonisi, kombinlerin çeşitliliği ve bir arada kullanılan cesur parçalar insana gardırobundaki unuttuğu parçaları tekrar hatırlamak, giymek açısından cesaret ve ilham veriyor. Kesimi, modeli ve rengi açısından kendime yakışacağına inandığım ürün olduğu sürece; daha önce alışveriş yapmadığım bir tasarımcının kıyafetlerini de zevkle satın alabilirim. Burada kriterim; kendi tarzıma uygulayabileceğim ürünleri seçmektir. Tasarımın zor bir yaratım süreci olduğunu bildiğim için; yeni tasarımcıların da ayrıca desteklenmesi gerektiğine inanıyorum.
3. Sosyal sorumluluk projelerinde sıklıkla yer alıyorsun. Peki İstanbul moda haftası esnasında moda ile ilgili bir sosyal sorumluluk projesi gerçekleştirmeyi düşündün mü?
Sosyal sorumluluk projelerinin bir ülkenin gelişmesi, değişmesi ve bireylerin kendi çabaları, farkındalık düzeyleri ile ülkelerinde ters giden ya da daha iyi gitmesini hayal ettikleri konuları değiştirebileceğini görmeleri açısından önemli buluyorum. Bildiğim kadarıyla İstanbul Moda Haftası kapsamında daha önce bir STK ile böyle bir çalışma yürütülmedi. Moda, sanat ve kültürel çalışmalar ile sosyal sorumluluk çalışmalarının amaçları açısından çok örtüştüğünü düşünüyorum ve ‘neden olmasın’ diyorum. Daha sonraki seneler için bence düşünülmesi ve proje geliştirilmesi gereken bir konu. Özellikle güçlü sponsorların yer aldığı İstanbul Moda Haftası’nda önemli bir sosyal sorumluluk projesinin duyurumunun ve geri dönüşünün çok etkili ve hızlı olacağı inancındayım.
4. Senin için İstanbul Moda Haftasının enleri?
Uçuşan kumaş seçimleri ve minimalist koleksiyonu ile Burçe Bekrek, Hıdırellez kültürünü yansıtan, rengarenk, cıvıl cıvıl koleksiyonu ile DB Berdan, monokrom ve minimalist tarzıyla Ayhan Yetgin ve her daim koleksiyonlarını keyifle takip ettiğim Mehtap Elaidi ve Zeynep Tosun.
